Word of the day: silly

Silly: (adj) Lacking seriousness; frivolous

Yet another night of basketball practice, yet another night of standing around cheering for my youngest son and enthusiastically reminding him (and everyone around me) that I have no concept of the sport of basketball and therefore most of my suggestions should probably be ignored. But I'm there, and I'm emphatic, and I try really hard to pay attention and know what's going on, despite embarrassing myself a few times by yelling something completely ridiculous.

Anyways. This post really isn't about basketball; it's about the comment made by my little guy after basketball practice was over. Once the coach dismissed him and the other five six-year-olds from their after-practice pep talk, my boy raced out of the gym to get a sip of water from the teeny tiny water fountain in the hall, blasted his way through the door of the school to make it outside, skipped a few steps ahead of me and with great gusto and little shame expelled a large pocket of gas that evidently needed to be expelled. That was good for a solid case of the giggles as we made our way to my Yukon, and as we climbed inside he said to me, "I have something for you, Mommy."

My heart got all mushy and totally swooned at the thought of him being so generous as to somehow procure a gift for me, so I happily responded, "Oh yeah?" I glanced in my rear view mirror at his impish little face just in time to see him grin real big and say, "Yes...and it's coming straight from my colon."

Ah. You just gotta love little boys.

I don't even know how he knows what a colon is, but I do know what gift he has for me, and this time, I'll pass.
