Word of the day: gift

Gift: (n) something that is bestowed voluntarily and without compensation.

It was my birthday yesterday. I am glad I had it because the alternative would be to not have a birthday, which pretty much means I would be dead, and I am not quite ready for that (as far as I know).  Now I'm thirty-one. Since I am no longer thirty, having a blog called "Wordy, Nerdy & Thirty" didn't seem fair. It seemed kind of misleading, as I am undoubtedly wordy and nerdy, but I can not claim to still be thirty. So I changed the title, as you may or may not have noticed.

The gifts I got for my birthday kind of speak volumes about me. One of my friends gave me a Godiva chocolate bar. Another of my friends gave me one of those microwavable chocolate cake mixes where you just add water and microwave it and PRESTO there's a freaking chocolate cake, and she also gave me a box of Extra Butter popcorn. My awesome neighbors made a homemade batch of Coffee Heath Bar Crunch ice cream for me, and my husband took me out to dinner at my favorite restaurant. Notice a theme here?

They.

Are.

All.

Food.

I eat too much. And apparently I talk too much about eating too much, too.

But I love that my friends and loved ones all know this about me, and choose to give me food stuffs for my birthday. I am okay with that. My love language is gifts, so even the smallest gift can have a big impact on my heart.

My daughter made me a card that said, "love love is rite here family looking back in wishes". I honestly don't have the slightest idea what on earth that means, but the fact that she sat down and thought of me and took the time to do something she thought would make me happy means the world to me. I took it to work and showed it off and got tickled each time I tried to explain what it meant...because I couldn't...but oh, how I love that little card.

So happy belated birthday to me, and hopefully the fact that the title of my blog was slightly misleading for a day won't scare off any of my readers. Just knowing that any of you take the time to read this blog is truly a gift to me.

  3. Hahah, LOVE the new title. And can I have EVERY one of those presents? Please? That card........priceless. Pretty much the only reason I would want a kid, is for stuff like that. Where DOES it come from? Heaven, I tell you. Or wherever Timothy Leary ended up. Xoxoxoxoxooxxoxo
