Word of the day: joy
I got in my BMW and drove today.
Did you hear me?
I said, I GOT IN MY BMW AND DROVE TODAY.
To the store. By myself. In the driver's seat. I even got some gasoline while I was out.
It was a heavenly, joyful experience.
I called my dear aunt when I pulled out of my driveway for the first time since Christmas Eve of last year, and got so excited while talking to her that I laid on my horn and honked out of sheer joy, only to discover that I had scared the wits out of a poor lady walking down the sidewalk by my car. To that lady, whoever she is, I am truly sorry, and while I can only assume she doesn't read my blog, I still hope she knows I didn't mean to scare her. I just got a little out of control with my driving-induced giddiness.
This past six months of driving restriction has certainly ingrained something in my brain wrinkles...
It is bafflingly easy to take things for granted. For instance, I realize now that I take for granted the little covers over the keys on a keyboard. A couple weeks ago when I dumped coffee in my keyboard, my husband tried to get every last bit of the coffee out by vacuuming the keyboard, and sadly the 'g' key succumbed to the strength of the Kirby and disappeared forever. This isn't a huge deal, but it kind of makes me want to type with a southern drawl so I could eliminate the 'g' at the end of some words. However, the grammar czar that lives inside of me shudders at the mere thought of this, and so it won't do. I'll just keep on plugging away, and make sure to appreciate the other 108 key covers that survived the vacuuming.
Anyways, all this is to say that I definitely took the privilege of driving for granted in the past, and knowing myself as I do, am certain I will do so again in the future. For now, though, I can hardly wait to be in the driver's seat again, and I hope to stay giddy and excited about it for as long as possible and will try my hardest not to scare anymore innocent pedestrians with joyous honking.
