Word of the day: creativity

Creativity: (n) the state or quality of being creative, along the lines of thinking that Benadryl and Motrin are an acceptable substitute for actual cough medicine when faced with a total lack of any cough medicine at sometime after 2 in the morning.

I was treated to a wonderful date night tonight with my husband. While that sentence sounds simple enough, I have to impress upon you the rarity of this feat. So far this year, we've had two date nights, and that exceeds our normal yearly quota. So we went out to The Red Pony restaurant in Franklin which I recommend with extremely high praise, had some nice adult conversation (for any non-parents in the group please let me clarify that I do not mean dirty, kinky conversation - I simply mean general sentences that flowed rather nicely without involving screaming, hitting, spit, the threat of paddling, or rabid toddler-inspired insults), and then we went off to Wal-Mart to get me a sweet new wireless mouse. And some potatoes.

Now, it is 2:12am and I am sitting up with my ten-year-old who doesn't have a stomach virus, but who keeps coughing until he throws up. This is fun. I have bribed him with the GameBoy to try and get him to sit up long enough to let some medicine settle this wicked cough, and in the meantime I have to do something to keep myself awake. I could totally be doing my accounting homework, but why bother? That class is kicking my tail and besides, I think anyone who can actually accurately complete any homework or studying at 2 o'clock in the morning is far beyond my level of ability or intelligence.

So...anyone and everyone who cares to read this will be treated to the ramblings of a tired, bleary-eyed mama just trying to stay awake long enough to see her child (hopefully) well. Sometimes there's just not time in my life to create an interesting, captivating blog post, as evidenced by my lack of very many interesting, captivating blog posts...which causes me to wonder...why the crap do I need a blog?! Oh, yeah...because I talk too much, and sometimes a blog is a great place for the overflow...

I wish you all long, restful, uninterrupted-sleep-filled nights.
